The brilliant Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz defeated Alexander Zverev in the Roland Garros final with a score of 3:2 (6:3, 2:6, 5:7, 6:1, 6:2), thus winning his third Grand Slam title of his career.
After Wimbledon and the US Open, Alcaraz also won Roland Garros, becoming the youngest tennis player in history to win three different Grand Slam tournaments on three different surfaces (21 years old).
Today’s final was worthy of some of the famous matches from the past played by members of the “Big Three,” and Alcaraz triumphed after a major comeback.
The young Spaniard started the match better and won the first set with two breaks, 6:3, but then Zverev woke up and made a big comeback.
First, Zverev equalized at 1:1 in sets with a 6:2 score, and then he took the thriller of the third set 7:5, coming a step away from his first Grand Slam title.
What followed was another turnaround. Alcaraz completely dominated the fourth set with three breaks, winning 6:1 and sending the match into a decisive fifth set.
The fifth set brought a real battle. Alcaraz immediately broke his opponent’s serve, and then Zverev missed a huge chance. He had four break points, including three consecutive ones, to make a break and get back into the game, but Alcaraz managed to defend them all. In the end, Alcaraz held his serve without any problems and won his third Grand Slam title with a score of 3:2, while Zverev remains one of the best tennis players who has never won such a title.
The young Spanish player, after winning the US Open in 2022 and Wimbledon in 2023, managed to claim Roland Garros as well, thus marking his bid to challenge the achievements of the “Big Three” in the future.
