Spain, Germany, Portugal, France, England, and Switzerland are the current quarter-finalists of the European Championship, and today two more teams will join them after the last two matches of the Round of 16 are played.
Yesterday’s matches were quite disappointing and did not deliver the expected high level of football quality, particularly the match between France and Belgium. We hope that today’s rivals will be more offensively minded and that we will see more exciting and effective football in the last two matches.
The first match will feature Romania and the Netherlands. On one side, the Romanians, who have played above all expectations and advanced to the knockout phase as group winners, and on the other side, the much stronger Dutch team, which disappointed in the group stage but still progressed.
Despite their group stage performances, the Dutch are strong favorites against Romania thanks to their much higher quality squad, and they are expected to justify their favorite status today.
The match between Romania and the Netherlands will be played at the Allianz Arena in Munich, starting at 18:00. The main referee is the local arbiter Felix Zwayer.
Three hours later, we should have a potential Round of 16 treat between Austria and Turkey. Although they are not among the top favorites for the final stages, especially Austria, Turkey can still show a lot today.
Austria, brilliantly led by Ralf Rangnick from the bench, aims to reach the final stages. The players of this team perhaps showed the most in the group stage, winning a group that included France and the Netherlands.
On the other hand, they face a very talented Turkish team with young players eager to prove themselves at the national level. However, a major problem for the Turks should be the absence of their biggest star and most important player, Hakan Calhanoglu, who misses the match due to accumulated yellow cards.
The match between Austria and Turkey is scheduled for 21:00 and will be played at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig. The main referee is Portuguese Artur Soares Dias. Both matches can be followed via live text updates on the Klix.ba portal.
