It is still unknown where legendary engineer Adrian Newey will continue his career after leaving Red Bull Racing, but a surprising new candidate has emerged.
Earlier, it was announced that Newey would leave Red Bull at the beginning of 2025, after achieving numerous titles with the Milton Keynes team since his arrival in 2006. He designed the cars that brought Red Bull Racing seven drivers’ and six constructors’ titles. The news of his departure shook the Formula 1 world, and now several teams are vying for his services.
Ferrari has emerged as the most serious contender, with Aston Martin and Williams also showing interest. However, Corriere dello Sera now reports that Alpine has joined the candidates for Newey’s future team. The Italian newspaper claims that former Benetton and Renault director Flavio Briatore will return to the team as a “special supervisor.”
Briatore won titles with Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso but has not been involved with an F1 team since receiving a lifetime ban from the sport in 2009 due to his involvement in the 2008 Crashgate scandal.
Briatore could be the key to bringing the significant “reinforcement” of Newey to Alpine. The Italian newspaper writes that discussions are underway about a temporary agreement, with the condition that the team be competitive by 2026.
