Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic (37) won the gold medal in men’s singles at the Paris Olympics today, defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the final with scores of 7:6, 7:6.
This was Djokovic’s first Olympic gold medal, completing the Golden Slam, which means winning all four Grand Slam titles and an Olympic gold. So far, only Steffi Graf, Andre Agassi, Rafael Nadal, and Serena Williams have achieved this in tennis history.
Before the Olympic gold, Djokovic was already considered one of the greatest in history, having won 24 Grand Slam titles, seven ATP Finals, the Davis Cup, 40 Masters, and the Golden Masters. He spent 428 consecutive weeks at the top of the ATP rankings over a span of 13 years and has a total of 72 major trophies.
Djokovic could not hide his emotions: Djokovic in tears after winning gold: This is my greatest sports achievement in life.
Spanish player Rafael Nadal also has an Olympic gold medal, in addition to 22 Grand Slam titles and 36 Masters titles. However, he has not won an ATP Finals and has a total of 59 major trophies.
Roger Federer, who retired without an Olympic gold medal, has the lowest numbers compared to Djokovic and Nadal, with 20 Grand Slam titles and 28 Masters titles. He has also won six ATP Finals and has a total of 54 major trophies.
