The world’s best tennis player, Jannik Sinner, has withdrawn from the Olympic Games due to tonsillitis.
The Italian was supposed to arrive in Paris yesterday, but he postponed the trip due to health issues.
It was reported that he had a high fever and was supposed to travel to Paris on Thursday, but today he announced to the public that we will not see him at the Olympic Games after all.
The Olympic tennis tournament starts on Saturday, and Sinner will not be able to recover by then. He expressed his deep regret but wished good luck to all other Italian athletes in Paris.
This year, Sinner won the Australian Open and became the world number one on the ATP list for the first time in his career.
At Roland Garros, he was defeated in the semifinals by the eventual winner Carlos Alcaraz, and recently at Wimbledon, he was knocked out in the quarterfinals by Daniil Medvedev.
