German driver Mick Schumacher will drive the Alpine F1 car at the Paul Ricard track in France, it has been officially confirmed.
Schumacher lost his place in Formula 1 after Haas did not renew his contract at the end of 2022. Since then, he has served as a reserve driver for Mercedes and competes for Alpine in the World Endurance Championship. He recently participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race.
The 25-year-old Mick is one of the candidates for the role of Alpine’s driver next season, as one seat will become vacant with Esteban Ocon’s departure. Thus, Schumacher will have the opportunity to drive Alpine’s 2022-spec car for one day ahead of the race weekend at Silverstone next week.
He has not driven an F1 car since last year’s Pirelli tire test when he was in the cockpit of the Mercedes car. He also drove McLaren’s 2021 car.
Mick will be joined at the Paul Ricard track by Alpine’s reserve driver Jack Doohan.
As is known, Doohan is part of the Alpine Academy and, alongside Schumacher, is one of the candidates for the team’s driver role next year. They are also competing with current Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz, who is negotiating with Williams and Sauber/Audi.
It is believed that Pierre Gasly will retain his place at Alpine.
