NOVAK ĐOKOVIĆ and Spanish footballer Aitana Bonmati are the winners of the Laureus Awards, known as the sports Oscars for the best male and female athletes in the world in 2023. Bonmati was chosen as the best player by FIFA last year, she was the recipient of the Golden Ball, and was also named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the World Cup, where Spain won the title.
Đoković won the Laureus Award for the fifth time in his career after winning three out of four Grand Slam tournaments last year (Australian Open, Roland Garros, US Open) and reaching the Wimbledon final. The Spanish women’s football team also won the Team of the Year award.

Real Madrid footballer Jude Bellingham was named the Breakthrough of the Year, while American gymnast Simone Biles won the Comeback of the Year award. The Laureus Awards nominees are selected by representatives of global media, and the winners are chosen by 69 members of the Laureus World Sports Academy. The award was established in 2000.
