Mexican driver Sergio Perez of Red Bull Racing received a penalty after the race in Canada last weekend. The stewards determined that Perez drove a “significantly damaged” car back to the pits after an incident, causing carbon parts to fall off, and decided to penalize him. As a result, Checo will start three places back from his qualifying position at the next race in Spain.
In addition, Red Bull Racing was fined €25,000 for this incident after the team admitted that Perez was instructed to drive the car to the pits to avoid the safety car’s deployment, allowing his teammate Max Verstappen to continue racing for the win.
To recap, Perez lost control in the 53rd lap and damaged the rear wing of his RB20 car. He recently signed a new two-year contract, but it must be acknowledged that he is currently in poor form.
